BPC is International: Yordan from Bulgaria

A few weeks ago we already introduced you to HitThat from Sofia in Bulgaria and tonight we have a meeting with a fellow countryman: Yordan aka “Yordi”. He is a member of our 6-max Micro program and doing pretty well there. See yourself.

private

Seems like Australia is a destination our CFP members like to go to, as also Kanelbullar spent some time there, too

When and why did you start playing Poker?

I started playing poker about 10 years ago. I learned it from friends and we played mostly home games.

Why did you decide to join our Coaching for Profits program?

I decided to join CFP, because I want to learn how to crush the high stakes. One of the main reason is that Gordon is the most inspirational coach for me. After I watched his caoching series “Champions stand up one more time than the rest”, I changed my opinion about many things, poker and also about life.

1

And where do you live, how is it to live there?

I live in Varna, Bulgaria. Its a nice city at the coast of the Black Sea. It is a good place to live in, but only during the summer season.

A bird-eye's view of Varna, Bulgaria-3

Varna at the Black Sea

What do you do in Winter then?

There is not much you can do here in winter. That’s probably better so you don’t get distracted from grinding.

That is true and what do you do, if you do not grind?

I spend my time with friends or watching football. But in the last two months I am trying to play as much as possible, so I can finish the program faster.

with friends

As you can see he likes to spend time with his friends. The airplane looks photoshoped though ;)

Are you a fulltime player?

Yes I don’t work at the moment, my goal is to make all my income from poker only.

And how do you motivate yourself for the daily grind?

Well, my motivation is to reach 30k profit per month, so I can afford to travel around the world, or maybe even live in another country, probably somewhere in Asia. The lifestyle in Bulgaria is really poor, so my main goal is to move somewhere else.

Do you have any tipps for others on how they can motivate themselves?

Motivation can be different for the people, but mainly playing a lot and trying to reach always better and better results.

Thank you for your time, we gonna meet you then in Asia!

Do you think poker math is complicated and boring?

Then you are not doing it right.

At BPC we understand that not everybody likes math. Hell, we don’t even like it that much ourselves! We prefer to play poker (and make money), not punch numbers all day.

But math is an important part of poker – like it or not, you have to know the basics if you don’t want to be dominated and pushed around at the tables.

Luckily, the basics are easy to learn, and we posted a few articles a while ago on the very fundamentals of math.

You can read the Basic Poker Math: All you need to know about pot odds and equity articles here, part 1 and part 2.

We also have some cool charts available for download for free from those articles, to make your life easier.

But the rabbit hole goes deeper than that, and if you want to see how to use math at the tables in simple and practical way, you will benefit from our new course, the No Bullshit Poker Math.

You are much better off investing your time into learning the key facts, print the pre-made charts and then do what all of us enjoy the most – play poker!

So do yourself a favor, save some time and get the ultimate poker math shortcut.

We have quite a few players from the beautiful country Slovenia in our team. One of the previously introduced members of our team has even the same first name, Miha aka “crazyhorse” – from our 6max Crusher program.

But today we will meet Miha aka “TheProject20”, he is succesfull in our HU program. Let’s meet Miha!

photo

Please tell me, when and why did you start playing poker?

I started to play poker with friends in 2009. It was at the seaside. I fell in love with the game immediately.

Since then I played just for fun. And actually a friend introduced me to BPC last year. And I decided to give it a shot and to play seriously. The situation in Slovenia is not good, as there are not many jobs available, and the salary is pretty bad. And I will not work for some people for the rest of my life for 700€, because I know I can do better.

Where in Slovenia are you actually from and how is it to live there? What do you like about it and what not so much?

I’m from Velenje. It is the 5th biggest town in Slovenia, but still small with around 30,000 inhabitants.

getimage_class

2016 Velenje won the award for the most beautiful “big” city in Slovenia. I like living here, as the nature around the city is really beautiful. We have a small lake, around which you can go running.

And that leads me to the next question: What do you do if you do not play poker?

If  Iam not playing poker, I spend a lot of time with my friends, or go to gym (just recreationally, not for body building) because in our job we sit most of the time and I go there to just to not get rusty.

graph

This can come up, if you step back and check up on your mental game!

How do you motivate yourself to play everyday? And to play a lot?

To be honest Iam not a hardcore grinder. I probably can’t do a 14hour-session, because I will make to many mistakes, at least for now. In general you have to always see the big picture, and why you are doing this. You have to have goals, and if it gets tough – and sooner or later it will – push yourself even harder!

In the beggining I had a lot of tilt issues (some serious problems) and I work really hard to fix them. So now if I notice that I start tilting, I stop grinding for a moment, take a break for a few moments to relax and look at the big picture. Then I start crushing again.

I wanted to ask exactly that. That is a good advice for your fellow grinders.

I don’t consider myself as an awesome player at the moment, but I will become one some day, for sure. I believe that emotions are a big problem for us poker players. We have to learn how to control them and make good decisions at the tables. If we are able to do that, success will come!

And what does your name, “TheProject20” actually mean?

Ok I will share that with you. When I started to play, there was a  promotion available on pokerstars which said you will receive 20€ if you make a deposit of 20€ (I think it still is for new players). I had opened 2 or 3 accounts, and I opened another one, just to get that free 20€ again. So that’s why “TheProject20”, and of course they found out and blocked all of my accounts, accept the last one and warned me, in case I will do it again, they would block my account for lifetime.

Do you have tips or advices for other poker players/fellow students? Something that helped you?

Work on your mental game. This is really important: Why do you do things, that you do? If you say that you can do it, or you can’t do it, in both cases you are right.

Keep fighting and never give up on your dreams!

Today we have an interview with Marcus aka “Crunky” from Sweden. He is doing very well in our program as part of our 6-max Micro team. Here we go!

Photo Marcus

Marcus with his family, which will soon get another member.

When and why did you start playing poker?

I started playing Poker somewhere around 2005-2006 in school with classmates. Many of them were really into poker but I just played because it was fun. I became 10th in Online Poker SM (Swedish national championship) in 2012 and to be honest I was not very good at poker. But as Gordon said (think it was Gordon) winning an MTT is like winning the lottery. I started taking Poker more seriously when I joined CFP on the 2nd of February this year and the reason is that I’m tired of working for a company and want to do my own thing. So of course the money is a very important aspect aswell.

Why did you decide to join us?

I joined BPC because I want to treat poker as a business and not like a hobby and I think Gordon and BPC is the best place to learn this. Right now I havn’t changed my game very much since joining, as I already played by the No BS 6-max lines. But I have done a lot of work with the things around poker, for example with my mindset, tilt and money management, as well as goals and math etc.

Marcus graph

Marcus’ work ethic and changes start to pay off.

And where do you live and how is it to live there?

I live in Southern Sweden in  a town named Karlshamn. There is not so much to do in here, as it is a small town with a population of 30.000. But I have a house here, which I bought 2 years ago with my girlfriend and our son.

Karlshamns-kommun

Karlshamn in Sweden

What do you do, outside of poker? Are you a fulltime grinder or have a hobby, which you are spending a lot of time on?

I am working fulltime at a concrete factory as project engineer. But right now I took my parental leave, which means that I am only working 16 hours per week. The rest of the time I am spending with poker and my family, which consists of my girlfriend and our 1.5 year old son and one more to come in 2 months!

In my little freetime I work out in the gym to train for the Strongman. My plan is to compete in a few years and I still need to get a lot stronger for that. I also like to play competitive games  with friends, like Counter-Strike. But that hobby I have set aside at the moment, as I am hunting for more money at the tables.

How do you motivate yourself and/or do you have special rituals, which you use?

My son is my motivation! I want to earn a lot of money in a few years, so that I can spend more time with him and give him a really good start into life. I will also teach him a lot of what I have learned from BPC, since BPC is not all about poker, it is also about life and success!

I cannot forget to mention Gordon here as well, he motivates me very much! I can’t wait to meet him in Malta at the BPC Poker Camp!

Thank you so much for your time! We wish you all success to make your dreams come true for you and your family!

Let us have a chat with Danny today, he is also known as “Danxity” in our “NL HU Soldiers” team. Do not miss out on the opportunity to meet him. Here we go:

Danxity our HU Soldier in BPC

When and why did you start playing poker?

I started playing live poker in late 2009, and online poker seriously since I joined BPC. It might sound crazy, but I was doing okay when I first started poker because I read some basic strategies and played very tight and solid. Back then the games were very easy. I was winning very solidily. Later on in my career I developed some ego, tilt, and pressure.
I wanted to learn to play LAG style like Tom Dwan and Ivey, but I wasn’t good at learning it and was trying to be a smart ass on my own. Later on my career I decided to play solid again and it was going good again, but shit happened in life and I spend away my bankroll and I just didn’t have much bankroll for the live games anymore. I used to live in Macau and the games there wern’t small.

I decided to move back to Canada and find a job, and start my poker career again. While I was working as a waiter I found BPC, and wanted to give it a shot because I did some research about BPC it didn’t just sound good, but it I couldn’t find any bullshit stuff.

Danxity's graph as HU soldier in BPC

Danxity chose the right path in joining our HU team! Keep going!

And this is what then let you to join our team?

Yes, I joined BPC because I love making lots of money, and I always dreamed of becoming very good at poker. I wasn’t able to get to the level where I wanted to be, and didn’t know how to do it on my own. I want to be able to earn 20K-30K EUR/month some day.

And where do you live, how do you like it there?

I live in Toronto, Canada. It’s a bit boring here, but it’s a nice country. The people are friendly.

Danxity lives in Toronto

Toronto: Does not look boring to me though ;)

Are you a fulltime player?

Yes, I’m a full time grinder.

How do you spend your time besides poker?

My hobbies are playing video games, and sports cars. I want to work hard and save up for a nice sports car when I am able to earn lots of extra money from poker. Some of my old school favorite sports cars are: GDB-C, R32, R34, NSX-R, CT9A.

How do you motivate yourself for the daily grind? Do you have any tips for your fellow grinders?

Actually, my biggest weakness is motivating myself. If I’m able to work on this I have a good feeling that I will reach where I want to be. M1ndCtrl is very good at motivational stuff. I got some great advice from him, and it seems to be helping a lot. He suggested to me to watch a movie named “The Secret”.

Thank you for your time. I hope to see you in a sports car very soon!

Today I want to introduce you to Lauri aka “hugocabret” from Estonia. He is a succesful student in our HU program. He had switched from our 6max program, which was obviously the right choice. Let me introduce you to Lauri:

hugocabret from our HU program in BPC

Lauri with his wife and his son.

When and why did you start playing poker?

Back in the 2007 my friend asked me to help him to move money from him to another guy. But because this involved the word “poker” I thought my friend has become some sort of gambler and that was it with this transaction.

A few months later the same friend was talking again about poker and because I was bored and had nothing better to do at that moment I gave it a try. I played for a few days with play money. The game seemed to be easy, so I made my first deposit of $20 and started to play. I thought every 2 card can win and went bust after a while. I made a second deposit of $20 and started to learn the game and since that I only had cashed out money.

Why did you decide to join us?

I became full time pro in 2009 and started to play heads-up in 2011. It was quite easy money at that time. But because Iam a lazy person (I didn’t want to learn at all) I earned as much as I needed to just live well off it. But since middle of the 2014 I was on a constant „downswing“. My winrate dropped from 8bb/100 to 3bb/100 and I couldn’t win anymore. But the actual reason I wasn’t winning was that besides not learning (enough), I did not put in the hours necessary: i played on averge 75 hours per month!

In November 2015 I bought Gordons No BS 6max book and started to play 6max. But I lost even more than I had lost before. I have read about the “Coaching for Profits program” and after another bad session I just went to CFP’s homepage and applied for the 6max Crusher program.

I started to learn and play 30NL but I was loosing there (almost every day I hit stop loss). I moved to 20NL and was loosing there. Moved to 10NL and was loosing there too. Meanwhile, I had moved to 6max Micro course, but nothing changed. So I exchanged emails with Janez and later with Gordon and we decided that I should try the HU program. And from that point on everything has changed.

Graph from hugocabret in BPC HU program

6max is not for everybody, and so Lauri decided for HU

Where do you live and how is it to live there?

I live in Tartu, Estonia’s second biggest town (about 100 000 inhabitants). We have Northern Europe’s oldest university, old wooden houses, a lot of parks  and a big river, which passes through the city. There are lots of students and other bohemians hanging around. In spring, it is especially beautiful in here.

Tartu

Tartu in summer: a very green city

I is also a great place to raise your kids and do sports (running, skiing, rollerblading, soccer etc).

What do you do, outside of poker?

I’m a family guy with wife, 1 year old son (who’s name is Hugo by the way) and wife’s 15 year old daughter. I like spending time with them.

Also, I like running. I have been running hole my life, but after I got a heart rate monitor for my 30th birthday, I started to train more seriously and set up a training plan for myself. I ran my first marathon in 2011 (ended it with 3.28hrs). Afterwards I set myself a goal to some day run a marathon below 3.00 hrs.

I started to train in accordance with my training plan and it was quite demanding. It didn’t matter if it was -20C° or + 25 C° or raining or snowing. I just went out there and ran. But I needed 5 trials to reach my goal: And last year I finally finished in 2.59 hrs.

After this I kind of lost motivation to train for marathons and for this season. I set my goal to improve my records on shorter distances. Also, this way I don’t have to train so many hours because at the moment my greatest goal is to end the CFP 60k as soon as possible.

hugocabret from our HU program BPC

Lauri after running a half marathon in Tartu

How do you motivate yourself?

My family is my motivation. I like spending time with them and poker gives me the freedom to choose my working hours. Also, I like to travel and my dream is to start running as many different marathons as possible. So far I have run 5 marathons in Estonia and one in Spain, Valencia. But I would like to run in New York, London, Paris and really interesting seems to me the “Pyongyang Marathon” in North Korea.

Do you have rituals for your daily grind?

Although I don’t have special rituals before playing I often go to running after ending my 8-9 hours of playing.

Do you have a favourate hand or a moment in poker, which was especially meaningfull for you and which you want to share with us?

Actually I have 1 special hand. I played it on the 23rd of February and also posted it in our skype group and our coach Ivan (M1ndCtrl) saw the hand and told me, that it was perfectly played. It felt really good to hear that. Also I told him that Im waiting to play 100NL and he checked my data in CFP and told me that I need to earn another €230 to move to 100NL. The best thing was that, I had a really good day and had earned more than €230 and could start playing 100NL from the next day on.

Special hand from hugocabret in BPC HU program

Lauri’s important hand!

Is there something more you want to share with the community?

Yes, from my marathon training I have learned that if you set yourself a goal and you work very hard for it then in the end you just achieve it. You just have to do what the training plan (or your coach) tells you, you have to get over the failures (because champions stand up one more time than the rest!) and the results will come sooner or later.
I think it’s the same with poker (and in life in general): Just put in maximum hours you can, do your homework and listen your coach and at the end you will get there!
I would like to thank Gordon for this program and videos (these are really creative and they do work), my coach Ivan (m1ndCtrl) for teaching and inspiring me and my wife for supporting me 100%. Without the support of the close ones its really hard (or even impossible) to achieve your goals.

Thank you for your time. It was a pleasure meeting you!

If you are a part of our BPC community you most likely have heard of him, Mikhail aka “Rylan”. He completed his €60,000 challenge in our HU program in 7 months and 13 days. Insane performance! His biggest win was €8,138.

And now he strikes back again in our PLO HU program. Meet Rylan:

Rylan in our PLO HU program in BPC

Rylan finished our HU program in less than 8 months and now crushes in our PLO HU program

When did you start playing poker?

I started playing poker when I was 20 years old, so about 5 years ago.

And why did you start with playing poker?

Because I didn’t want to study at university and then end up in a “normal” job. And I already had played different computer games throughout almost my whole childhood. So poker is like another computer game for me. But one that brings money.

Why did you decide to join our team?

First of all because I want to earn more money than I do right now. Second of all for motivational reasons.

Graph from Rylan in our PLO HU program BPC

After some ups and downs, we all know in which direction his graph will be going.

Where do you live and how is it to live there?

Right now I’m in Novosibirsk. I don’t like it. It’s cold here and there is almost nothing interesting about the city.

Novosibirsk, where Rylan from the BPC team lives

Novosibirsk, located on the TransSiberian railway, the most popular railway in the world

What do you do, outside of poker?

I like traveling and meeting new people. I also love sports, right now I do MMA (note: mixed martial arts).

How do you motivate yourself?

It motivates me a lot to have responsibilities to other people. This is one of the reasons why I joined CFP.

How do you practize every day? How do you train yourself for the game?

I make detailed notes from my sessions with my coach and reread those notes every day. And I try to repeat those notes in my brain constantly. Additionally I do equity analisis with equilab and meditation before each session.

Alright, thank you for the insights! We are looking forward to see you climb up!

Mostly people decide to start playing 6max, when they get involved with poker, so did Rafał aka “claher”. Nonetheless he joined our HU program and is doing pretty well. Meet Rafał aka “claher”:

Rafał has success in our HU team - Best Poker Coaching

Rafał and his wife

When and why did you start playing poker?

I started playing Texas Holdem Poker in high-school, like around 6 years ago.  My classmates played during the breaks and I was interested in making some by money playing poker, and so I started with cash games.

After I had finished school I tried my luck in online poker with a free bankroll from one coaching site.  And probably like most of the fish I lost my first bankroll. Then I deposited and lost this one as well.

The next step was trying my skill in HU SnG Hyper Turbo. Without any idea about the games I deposited my first salary and doubled up it. However later I lost all that money and should learn to not trust people, who you almost don’t know. Because I met a polish poker player at the tables and I lost all my money in my Pokerstars account.

It was a horrible time for me- I felt pretty bad. But because I love poker so much I gave the game with real money a second chance. I started playing 6-max cash NL2. For almost 3 years I was stuck on NL2-Nl25 6max as a break-even player.

I had my first coach to take my game to a higher level but it wasn’t the best choice. So I was searching for someone else, someone really good.

Was this the moment, when you decided to join BestPokerCoaching?

Yes, after reading the succes stories of Ilidek, Nubson and GoodFake in Gordon’s CFP HU program, I made the choice and joined Gordon’s CFP deal. I have the will to crush and earn money for a living from playing poker and my goal was to do it as fast as possible.

It was Christmas Time 2015. I went through all the starter stuff in almost one day. Then I started playing, with results of hitting 20BI stop loss in about 10 days. It was time for my mindset test. Then I STOODUP ONE MORE TIME THAN THE REST and now Iam building my bankroll to shot NL200.

graph from claher, HU soldier at BestPokerCoaching

Nice graph!

Where do you live and how is it to live there?

I live in Poland, in a small village near Krakow.  I like my country but the weather could be better and more sunny like in Greece ;). In terms of income people can’t be happy here: The average salary is around 450€.

Krakow, where Rafal from Best Poker Coaching lives

This is beautiful Krakow!

Are you a fulltime grinder?

No, I have a full time job and I plan to drop it and become a full time poker pro. The idea of working 8 hours daily, 160 hours per month for 600€ is a joke for me.

What do you do outside of poker?

I like reading motivational books and books for self improving. I can recommend Anthony Robbin’s books and one which made the biggest change for me was “Awaken the Giant Within”

How do you motivate yourself and/or do you have special rituals, which you use?

My motivation mainly comes from my plan to change my life and the first big step is to drop my fulltime job. I was grinding as much as possible after my job evry day, and I almost did not spend any time with anybody.

I was in work/play/learn/sleep repeat mode.  I don’t use any special ritual, but i try to play only with a fresh mind.  If I feel that Iam losing control ofer my emotions, I quit playing and do other stuff.

For example: Spending time with my wife, cleaning the room, doing something outside. Just to take a break for my brain.

The goals for my next months also motivate me: We want to buy new car. Then we have the plan to build our own house but probably it will change, because we need to invest money from poker winnings to build better financial fundaments.

If we spend money now, who knows what will be later, like 5 years from know.

Do you have a moment in your poker careerr, which was/is really important for you? Can you describe why?

Yes. The most important moment was the moment, when I decided to join the CFP HU Soldier program. I was b/e 6max NLH player and I had the big will to make money playing poker. Since I joined CFP, I started playing HU with BPC, broke my personal record of monthly winnings (2k€) and now I want to become a HU poker pro. It’s only a matter of time because with all the coachings and the available materials it is impossible to not make money on the long run.

Alright, so the plans are clear for you: Simply upwards! All the best for your personal goals!

Today we will meet one of our successful members of the BPC 6max Crusher program. Let me introduce you to Leandro aka “LeandroOS”:

LeandroOS successful Crusher in BPC 6max Crusher program

When and why did you start playing poker?

I started playing poker in high school, 10, 11 years ago. Back then I would skip classes and even tests to play for coins. Right at the same time I started playing online, first with play money. Then I played some freerolls, won some cents, and have been playing professionally ever since.

Why did you join BPC?

I’ve been playing professionally for a long time now, almost 9 years, and always made some money, but nothing big. When I saw the coaching for profits program and other player’s story, I almost snap joined. I want to make a lot of money in the next few years, so I can retire and invest money in something else, and BPC is definitely the place where I can learn things and achieve that.

How would you describe your experience in the program in general?

The program is awesome. I’ve been learning a lot about poker strategy and also correct mindset, that has been one of my biggest leaks throughout the years. My results are still not as close as what I want them to be, but I know they will catch up very soon.

Where do live right now and how is it for you to live there?

I live in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It’s a very cool city with a lot of things to do, especially if you like bars, beer and food. Plus all my friends and family live here.

Belo Horizonte in Brazil, looks like a fascinating place to live in

How do you spent time outside of poker?

On my free time I enjoy playing football (the real one, the one you play with your feet!) with my friends, and my girlfriend is teaching me how to play tennis. I also enjoy exploring the city and other nearby cities together with her.

Do you have tips or advices for others?

I look at my goals in the long run to motivate myself, in the daily basis I just follow my schedule and play and study as much as I can. For anyone new to the program, just do your stuff, do your homework, go through the chapters. I can say for what I’m getting right now, you’ll get every tool you need to succeed if you apply it yourself hard enough!

We’ve got some awesome news for everybody interested to join our 6-max coaching programs!

In the past months our team have spent A LOT of time perfecting and improving our 6-max coaching system.

We had one goal in mind… To make it possible for everybody to get easy access to expensive professional poker coaches and our famous system which has proven to be the ultimate shortcut for guys looking to win big at the tables.

Today, this is possible.

We optimized and improved our system SO MUCH that we can offer the same quality for less cost to you, the poker player. That is why, we have decided to cut the length of the CFP contracts in half! Yes, because of hard work of our team, you can get the same education for half of the commitment.

The Micro 6-max profit target is now only €5k EUR, while the profit for the Crusher 6-max is €30k.

Not only does this make it twice as easy to complete the program (at half the price!), but you get all the same materials and coaching that was previously available only under 10k contracts.

In other words – it’s your lucky day! 🙂

For those interested in more detailed information on the programs, you can check it out here.

So now you know.

Our coaching program just became available to everybody. All obstacles are removed. There is nothing holding you back anymore.

The contracts are 50% shorter, and in case life happens, you can easily quit the program.

You might be thinking to yourself, »This is awesome, but why? It’s not Christmas, is it?!«

And you are right, it’s not Christmas. The fact of the matter is that the success of our programs in the past months surprised even ourselves.

We are publishing success story after success story, and inspiring more and more players to join us, and finally taste the feeling of dominating at the tables.

It is truly amazing to see all those previously struggling and losing players, even hobby players, suddenly start winning within a short time of joining our program.

So we want to take it even a step further. There was a time when it was just Gordon, and a handful of guys, his first students. Back then Gordon used to charge anywhere between 500 and 1000 EUR for an hour of coaching, and still couldn’t find the time for everybody. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. Hourly poker coaching is expensive.

That’s why he was looking for a new model of coaching, for a way to help more people. It started with a few personal students, who all had $100k contracts, and paid a much bigger % share than what is the norm today. They laugh at how easy it is to make it today with BPC.

After they made it, we got some of them on board as coaches, and coached a new, bigger group of people: the so-called 2nd generation. They already had smaller contracts, and a 50% share. Why? Because I could share the burden of coaching with my old students, and we could afford to do it at a lower price.

We kept growing and growing, even former haters converting into BPC fans.

To make a long story short, today is the final result of this process which started years ago.

The ultimate shortcut to start winning at the tables is here:

  1. €5k contract for the Micro 6-max, and €30k for the Crusher program makes it possible to finish the program in just a few months, even if you start at the very bottom (and many did!)
  2. No more exit penalties – If something happens, and you have to quit, you will only pay your fair share of the profits, and not a penny more. This is truly no risk coaching, affordable to anybody.
  3. What are you waiting for?!

Good luck at the tables!

Women in BPC: Ola from Canada

Hi guys and gals,

today we will start with a special blog post series “Women in BPC”. Yes, there are women playing poker and we also have a few female members in our team. I have the honour to introduce you to the first women in that series: Ola aka “petite-lambda”, the first female HU soldier at BPC.

Ola the first female HU soldier at Bestpokercoaching

Happy Ola after winning the “Waterloo poker classic”

Why did you start playing Poker?

I started playing poker about 3.5 years ago. I’m a software developer at Google, and every Friday a few people from the office would arrange a $5 SnG. I got curious; soon I was playing every Friday – very badly at first, but then I just started reading whatever I could find on NLHE, practicing, discussing with friends, etc.

This is just such a fascinating game! “Five minutes to learn, lifetime to master” — so true! I began to make money regularly at casinos, rapidly moving up the stakes to current $2/$5; I also understood very soon that I much prefer cash to tournaments, so started organizing cash games in the office as well. Don’t want to brag, but I won a lot of money off my colleagues

My live winrate is awesome, but it wasn’t enough for me. I am very competitive about poker, and I wanted to see whether I could REALLY do it, as in beat the pros at their game. I love my job, but for a time I was seriously considering to switching to doing Google half-time, and do poker professionally with the rest of it.

I now think that was not a good idea. I want to dedicate ~10 hours a week, and see just how well I can do with that. Unfortunately, there’s only one life — my family and my Google job come first!

How did you join our team at BPC? How did you get to know us?

So after a few months and almost $2K overall loss online, I “gave up” and started looking for a coach. Now I understand that this is not giving up at all, this was the smartest thing I ever did in poker; but it very much felt like giving up. After all Jungleman learned this on his own, why can’t I be as smart as him? Ego talking, I know 🙂 So I learned about BPC almost immediately, BPC is a very prominent option when you start looking online for poker coaching. And the CFP deal sounded too good to be true, frankly — they are going to teach me how to make 60K, and only take 30K out of that?! Wow. I didn’t need much convincing 🙂

Ola had to go through some ups and downs, but this is the variance of poker kicking in.

Where do you live? How do you like it to live there?

I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. This is a lovely little town, and I’m super happy to be there! Low cost of living, great weather, very beautiful place! Poker-wise, I can play on Bodog, which is a total fish-pond 🙂

Kitchener where Ola from BPC lives

Did you have a special moment in poker, which you can share with our community?

Special moment in poker: winning the Waterloo poker classic a few months ago, took 4K as first prize!

Another moment I’d like to share is actually a negative one, but I think it is very important and might resonate with many other players: I was playing online, and my boyfriend came in to watch me play. I got distracted and made a stupid mistake, after which I literally screamed at him! He didn’t say anything then, but afterwards he told me: “You know, I don’t think poker is making you a better person”. This was such a wake-up call for me! My family comes first; I really need to be strong mentally, and not let mishaps and bad luck and whatever to turn me into a hissy bitch!

Ola, thank you for giving us your personal insights into poker.

Today I would like you to meet Andres, aka “AndRos”. He lives in the same city, where Che Guevara and the world famous football star Lionel Messi were born too. Of course Andres is crushing it!

Andros from our HU program in BPC

Andres enjoying his holidays in Brazil

What was your reason for you to start playing poker?

A few years ago my friends and me had the ritual to meet every weekend and have some fun time together: Some beers, chips, cards and whole nights of gambling. I have good memories abotu that.

Then I started to play fixed limit online with $50 of free capital and I kept playing ever after. I never had to deposit money, although I switched to SnG first and then to NL, where I became  a pro.

Why did you join BPC?

For a few months before joining BPC, I had a big “downswing”, it was nothing more than mindset and strategy leaks, tilt and dreadful table selection.

I didn’t even realize too much about these issues (I can see it now in retrospective), and I didn’t know where to get the best information to keep improving. Watching random strategy videos and posting in forums didn’t seem to help so much.

So one day I saw one Gordon video, I read some of his successful students blogs, and I thought “ok, this could be the answer!”.  My english wasn’t very good at that time, I remember the first interview I had with Rovar I was a bit nervous because of it, and I asked him “Ey Rodverd, my anglish is god?” and he told me: “Is perfect!”.

I was so fucking happy to hear that!, because that meant I was already in. A moment later I signed the contract.

How would you describe your experience in the BPC program?

I’ll summarize my experience this way:

It was the period of the biggest growth in my life (process which still continues), as a poker player, and as a human being. I have learnt soo many things, not just to beat the poker tables, but to have a more wonderful life.

Having a strong mindset is very important to be a long term winner at the tables and outside of them, and coaches like Ivan aka “m1ndctrl” helped me to improve a lot in this area.

Andros Graph for HU soldier in BPC

Andres madethe right choice in joining our team!

Where do live right now and how is it for you to live there?

I live in Rosario, Argentina, city of revolutionary “Che Guevara” and the best football (soccer) player of the world Lionel Messi.

Placed on the banks of the Paraná river (one of the biggest in Southamerica) it is a cool place to live in. I love to train outdoors here. Rosario is also known as one of the cities with the most beautiful women by the people who come to visit the city. I have to say that it is true.

Rosario, where Andros our HU soldier from BPC lives

Rosario a beautiful place

How do you spent your free time?

Besides Poker, I train almost everyday a discipline called calisthenics, which is done in bars and parallels, usually with the body weight and can be done outdoors so you can be more in touch with nature. I love that.

I also go to the gym to do more heavy lifting of compound movements like squats, deadlifts and bench press, which can’t be done outdoors. Then on my free time I like to read books about self improvement, or I meditate.

What is your motivation for the daily grind? Do you have tips for others?

Always keep in mind your WHYS, because they are the fuel to keep you moving when the hard times come, and they’re gonna come!

So it is better to be well prepared when that happens, write them down, repeat them daily, focus on moving towards them with each step you make and when you doubt about what you’re doing, close your eyes and remember them.

Hard times have also the potential to make you grow a lot when you overcome them, so be the one who overcomes the problems and don’t let the problems overcome you, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.

Do you have a special hand or poker moment you would like to share?

Yes, I have a hand that was one of the most important hands I have played lately and I’m going to explain why. Because a few months ago calling here on this river was totally unthinkable, but when I was playing the hand (a few days ago), the call was so clear!

The difference? In the moment when I played the hand I already had the TOOLS to recognize the situation from another perspective, I was already armed with the weapons BPC gave me to know exactly what to do based on the reads I had. And, it was on NL400.

Andros special hand in our HU program at BPC

So this was the situation: After several hands, I couldn’t find ways to exploit this guy’s aggro tendencies postflop, and I was kinda lost.
But then a showdown came, which gave me a KEY read about him, and then another one.

AND THEN, I knew exactly what to do, 20 hands later, this happened.. and when I faced his jam on the river, I laughed, you know. Because I realized the whole situation (yesss, I CATCH YOU BABY!) and I called his jam, and I won…and I knew it. It felt SO good, mostly not because of the pot, but because of the way I played the hand.

Awesome interview! Thanks a lot for your time and the detailed hand. Keep crushing!

From Micro to Crusher: “NL 10 was a roller coaster ride”

Many of our players start with us in our 6-max Micro program and they are grinding the micro stakes and drill our standard lines and eventually start beating not just NL2 and NL5, but at the end even NL10.

Then they are moving on to the next level, our 6-max Crusher team. We already have met Marcus aka “Crunky” who exactly went this path.

Today we have a short meet up with Chris aka “Jfdiwins”, who just had joined our Crusher team after grinding his way through the micro stakes

Chris  from England, started playing poker in 2009 when he went to Las Vegas for his 40th birthday, together with his best friend, who was already playing poker and introduced him to live tournaments in the casinos.

From Micro to Crusher at Bestpokercoaching

Chris’ love for the game started exactly here: Las Vegas

Chris was impressed by this crazy guy who was full of energy

Once he attended a free online Gordon Gekko seminar on bet fold rather than check call several years ago). The seminar he describes as very boring except Gordon’s part. Chris was impressed by this crazy guy who was full of energy but he lost the details of his program but found them again late last year and started in January 2016 with the program.

He joined BPC as he was missing a solid foundation and wanted to start from the bottom and work his way up. NL 2 and NL4 eventually went very well but NL 10 was a roller coaster ride and he hit a big downswing.

But he ground his  way through it and has now reached intermediate (just about!)

From Micro to Crusher in Bestpokercoaching

Chris’ rollercoaster but at the end the direction is clear

Chris grew up in the general area of Westhoughton and has  never moved on and at present he has his business interest in Manchester which is commuter distance away.  Like many Brits he wouldn’t mind moving somewhere drier and warmer at some point. Poker will help him to reach this goal.

From being  a police officer, to running a security training business and soon a poker pro

As an ex-police officer, now working  full time running a security training business he does not have a lot of time for hobbies other than poker. But he is more than dedicated and wants to improve to the point where he can play full time and poker can support him.

His advice to all his fellow grinders in the program is to  just follow nobs and don’t try to deviate too much.

Also Tadej aka “s3cr3t” went from Micro to Crusher

Tadej is another student in our program who just recently moved up from the 6max Micro team into the 6max Crusher team, he just joined at the beginning of April and is rising up like a rising star.

Tadej now in our 6max Crusher program at Bestpokercoaching

Tadej aka “s3cr3t” in our 6max program

What was your reason for you to start playing poker?

I always liked playing games And it was about 10 years ago when pokerstrategy offered free 50$ and that is how it all began. It could have ended really fast, as I went to a PL50 table and got it all in on the turn with around 20% and I got lucky.

I actually realized how little I know about the game. So I took it seriously read materials and grinded short stack strategy. The strategy was so simple, it was like printing money up to NL50.

Than I moved to 6max tables and had an insane first month making 1,600$ without rakeback on NL10. I had to be on an extreme heater, because at that time I didnt know much in general playing before only SSS.

And after that I rarely had better months playing higher. But I never really played above NL50 because I wasn’t that good and I didn’t get myself any coach or study enough by myself so eventually I lost interest and found myself another hobby.

Why did you join BPC?

It was my birthday and my last few years main income sportsbetting blew half of my bankroll. Since Iam 32 with no job and not really any possibility to get any decently payed job, I decided to give poker another chance seemed only reasonable choice.

How do you feel, being in BPC has improved your game and/or results?

BPC improved my tilt issues immensely so far and made me realize, that I need to go all in (play and study at least 8 hours daily on average). No BS 6max is also pure gold for micro limits. I mean it has only a few pages and really simple stuff (not hard to learn and adopt) and it works wonders. I wish I had known only that when I started. Iwould have done much much better.

graph from s3cr3t now in our 6max Crusher Program at Bestpokercoaching

Look at what he had achieved in the Micro program after joining at the beginning of April. Awesome!

Where do live right now and how is it for you to live there?

I live in Sezana at the moment. I was looking for new place to live in and an option was to move to my grandma’s house and make her stay at the retirement home easier by visiting her and bringing her stuff. Sadly she passed away last year. So I have now 12-18 months to make decent money to move to Thailand for a few years.

I like the idea of living in a villa by the sea where costs of living are far more reasonable. Sezana’s population is only 5,5k but we have all we need, mostly because we live 15km away from the Italian city Trieste in Italy. And for them everything is still a lot cheaper here in Slovenia. I like how quiet and peaceful it is here.

sezana where s3cr3t from Bestpokercoaching lives

Sezana: Quiet and peaceful, with beautiful nature around it.

What are your hobbies outside of poker?

My whole life is a hobby. I really never did any stuff I didn’t like for long time. If I didn’t like it iI stopped doing it was always that simple for me.
Now my focus is playing solid poker and make shitload of money. I like playing games, I like money and I like winning and poker combines all 3. In past eventually winning was harder and harder and magic was lost. Being at BPC this wont happen again.

What is your motivation for the daily grind? Do you have tips for others?

Hardest for me is to sit down and start session. When i finally get rolling, playing becomes like natural state for me and I usually have no problems playing 3-6 hour-sessions. Also I have zero distractions around that is very important. I also see now the importance of setting weekly goals. It really gives you an additional push when you wanna be lazy.

Do you have a special hand you would like to share?

Every hand is special if you play it right at right moment.

Thanks a lot for your time. All the best for achieving your dreams!

Meet Evgeniy aka MadridistaDude one of our HU soldiers today

Evgeniy from Sergiev Posad (Moscow region) always wanted to make a living without having to go to the office. And he already reached the halfway margin, here he is:

Evgeniy aka MadridistaDude at BestPokercoaching

Evgeniy on vacation in Madrid

When and why did you start with poker?

I started in Summer of 2010. I always wanted to make a living without having to go to the office. I was studying in the university then – so couldn’t have any other full-time job.

Why did you decide to join BPC?

I was playing 6max at Pstars NL100 then and was feeling that it’s becoming harder every day to beat those games (no more 4-5k month which I did before). And I had a couple of bad consequtive months.

I didn’t have any coaching for a year by that moment (and previously I always tried to invest money into poker education) – so I was searching for new information anyways. BPC seemed a brilliant variant though I had to transfer to HU.

Evgeniy aka MadridistaDude's graph for Bestpokercoaching

HU was a good choice

How would you describe your experience in the program?

I didn’t receive exactly what I was expecting. But the problem is on my end. I have pretty bad long term memory and have huge problems with assimiliation all the knowledge and adapting to what is needed to beat nl200+ games.

But instead I received VERY solid basis to beat nl50-nl100 games which will always be with me. I definitely became hundred times more stable and began to work 1.5 times more and came to my “limit” in this question.

Again – my brain is not too great, I can’t play more than 2 tables, can’t play much more than 150+ hours a month (quality of the game decreases drastically) or have insanely long sessions (like some of our coaches are speaking about – I play only 3-4 hours max in a row, then I take a rest).

But all that I began to do in the best way I can. And who knows – probably one day I will be able to beat games higher than nl100 – I still have 3 full 90sheet copybooks of summaries of all the videos I’ve watched and I keep learning them every day 🙂

You come from Moscow region? What do you like most about the place, where you live in?

I come from Sergiev Posad (Moscow region) and although one day I plan to move back to Moscow (lived there 7 years during studying at the university) – I enjoy my living here right now. What I like most is obviously the nature (better ecology than in the capital).

Our town is surrounded with vast amount of picturesque forests, lakes and rural landscapes in general. I try to explore it on my bicycle as often as I can. 🙂

The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra is located in our city. It’s kind of the heart of the Orthodox Church worldwide + the whole history of Russia is closely connected to it (it was a great fortress in middle Ages + a lot of monarchs were hiding here during revolutions later) so we have thousands of tourists coming here to watch it every day 🙂

Evgeniy aka MadridistaDude lives in Moscow Region

Evgeniy :” I’m not a very religious person but this cultural monument brings in money and the city prospers 🙂 “

How do you spent time outside of poker?

Sport (gym/street workout), bicycle, I used to watch films and play online computer games a lot (but it was before joining BPC obviously ;)). Now when I have a day-off or just taking some rest – I try to stay away from the computer and spend time outdoors.

How do you motivate yourself for the daily grind?

Don’t need any motivation. If I don’t play – I don’t have anything to eat 🙂

Do you have a special hand or a moment in poker you would like to share?

No, can’t remember anything significant. I like moments when you understand something (regarding poker) and feel that you’ll be making more money from now on. But there’re plenty of them and I can’t pick the one.

Thank you for your time, and keep pushing!

The first woman in our BPC-team: Mojca aka PhDMishka

2 weeks ago I introduced you to Ola, who was our first woman in the HU program. This time I have to honour to introduce to you the first woman, who joined our BPC team. She joined our SNG-team. Meet Mojca:

Mojca aka PhDMishka in BestPokerCoaching

Mojca enjoys the beach in Ecuador – the life of a poker player

When did you start playing poker and who brought you in contact with it?

I came in contact with poker some 10 years ago via friends. I always loved to do things where you need brains more than muscles and I was hooked immediately. I started playing on the internet.

At first I had some beginner’s luck but without investing time into studying I got stuck and I stopped playing for a few years. During this time I finished my education (university, PhD) and got a job and I only started seriously thinking about poker again about two years ago.

When have you decided to join our SNG team at BPC?

At first I tried studying on my own but poker has evolved some much during my absence that I knew it was going to be very hard to get some results quickly without coaching. That is when I started searching on the internet for coaching options and how I found out about BPC.

How do you feel, being in BPC has improved your game?

Well in the four months since I’ve been in the program my game has improved enormously. Like a whole new universe opened up and I think my results speak for themselves 🙂

Mojca's graph in Bestpokercoaching

Check out Mojca’s graph

And in general how would you describe your experience in the program?

To enrol in this program was the best thing I could’ve done for my poker education. We learn the game from one of the best and I really think this is the best chance to make serious progress poker wise.

I really like that you can get all the answers you have regarding poker strategy immediately via videos, forum or by asking one of the fellow students or our coach. I think it’s also very important that you can talk with people that have the same interest.

Where do you live in Slovenia and how is it to live there?

At the moment I am living in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. Slovenia is a very small country and everything you need to relax is one hour drive away (seaside, mountains). Slovenia is mostly known for its beautiful nature (Bohinj, Lake Bled, seaside, Postojna caves), old cities (Piran) with castles (Ptuj, Celje, Ljubljana).

Ljubljana, where PhDMishka from Bestpokercoaching lives

Mojca is back in Ljubljana, who knows for how long…

What do you do outside of poker? Just recently you were travelling, right?

I really love travelling. For the last few years I have been travelling a lot . The problem was always my job. I never had enough free time to go on longer trips.

And that is why I wanted to get a job where I could arrange my time as I want. And poker was the only way where I could do what I really like and enjoy and travel simultaneously. The only thing needed is good internet.

So I left my job and went on a trip to South America six months ago with the idea that I will travel around and make money for it by playing poker. I started my trip in Ecuador.

Soon after the trip started I enrolled into BPC and I stayed only in Ecuador for the whole time because the internet was good everywhere. The country is beautiful (jungle, mountains, seaside, wildlife,..), people are nice, colourful markets with fruits and vegetables we never even heard of in Europe, good internet wherever you go and I learned Spanish on the way.

I basically travelled the whole Ecuador and stayed for longer periods of time at the beach in the west, near the jungle in the east and in the south of Ecuador. The trip was woooow and I can easily imagine doing this in the future. Besides travelling I also like photography, chess, snowboarding, learning languages and playing pool.

Ecuador beach where PhDMishka from Bestpokercoaching spent a lot of time

Beach in Ecuador – probably one of the best places to enjoy a Margerita after the daily grind ;)

What is your motivation for the daily grind? Do you have tips for others?

For me the biggest motivation is that by being a consistent poker winner I can do my ʺjobʺ wherever I want and under my conditions! I set my own goals and I reap all the success everything depends on my hard work and there is nobody telling me what to do and when to do it and how high the pay check will be.

So when I imagine how my life could look like in a year or two: me lying on the most beautiful beach of my choosing in the world (the picture), drinking well deserved margarita with friends after a very successful day “in the office” and that this is how the rest of my live will look like….well that is all the motivation I need.

The point is that now I actually believe this is possible because of the BPC program. Of course it will take a lot effort on my part but I think the goal is definitely worth it!

Tips for the others: I truly believe that if you really want something and you put your mind to it everybody could be living their dreams.

Do you have a special hand or moment in poker you would like to share?

I don’t have a special hand or poker moment but at the moment I am happy with every hand I played well because I know I have improved and I am happy with every hand I played bad because there are still so many things I can improve.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Meet Andrea aka “sun1s” who joined our Micro team and progressed into our Crusher team

Today I want to introduce you to Andrea from Italy, who moved up from our 6-max Micro team into our 6-max Crusher team. Here he is:

Andrea aka "sun1s" in our 6-max Crusher team at BPC

What was your reason for you to start playing poker?

Bore, a dear friend of mine, introduced me to this game 6-7 years ago. We started playing on “Governor of Poker” which was (is?) a play money flash-based single player online game.

I quickly fell in love with texas holdem and I was the first one of us two to step into real money games. I’ve never stopped playing since.

Why did you join BPC?

I joined BPC because I dreamed of becoming a poker pro after countless hours of watching training materials and reading books and then reality smacked me in the face with mediocre results. I could beat NL2 and NL5, I was about break-even at NL10 and I started losing at NL25 and could never go beyond NL25 successfully.

So i basically spent 6 years studying poker up to super advanced topics like range balancing river bluff raises, building a  bankroll to play NL25, to then lose the money I made and go back down and grind up again. I wanted to put an end to this evil loop and possibly finally become a poker pro.

How do you feel, being in BPC has improved your game and/or results?

The results in BPC have been tremendous. I started from the BPC Micro program and I’ve moved up since. My game changed in a way I could never expect. For me it wasn’t about strategy at all, or tilt managment, It was about learning how to fish and table select well, I think that made a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference.

What also made a difference is having such structured pre-flop ranges. I think that makes it much easier to stay focused and to work on your game to understand it to a deeper level.
Lastly, the way we play 2nd pair as an aggressor specifically is something I’ve never done like BPC does and I feel like it makes it much easier and cleaner to play.

And in general how would you describe your experience in the program?

The experience with the program has been good, I feel like you’re hard on us, maybe too much at times, because I think we really are a solid and well motivated group that really puts effort into this, but I can’t argue with the amazing results BPC produces and at the end of the day, as Gordon says, that’s the only thing that matters.

Where do live right now and how is it for you to live there?

I live in Bologna, Italy. I was born and raised here. It’s a great city but being in Italy means that it’s illegal for me to play outside of the “italian market” so it strongly limits my options.

Are you a fulltime grinder?

I’m not a fulltime grinder at the moment because i have a more-than-fulltime job that sends me around the world quite frequently, which makes it super difficult to put hours into poker. I’ll be in Kenya then Dubai pretty soon for example. I still need to move up to NL200 at least and be a solid winner there to start considering poker as a fulltime career that pays the bills but that’s the plan and i cannot wait!!

How do you spent time outside of poker?

I guess the only hobby I have is riding motorbikes, on dirt of asphalt it doesn’t matter, as long as it has 2 wheels and an engine I’m happy.

What is your motivation for the daily grind? Do you have tips for others?

My motivation for the daily grind is becoming a winner at NL200 like I said, so that financially speaking, poker will become a real option and I’ll be able to finally archieve the dream of becoming a poker pro.

I would give a couple tips to others that I found out really help me:

  • The first one is having multiple shorter sessions per day instead of a big long one
  • The second one is, if on a downswing, try playing a couple less tables for a few days, you’ll be more focused, which will produce a better session, which will likely produce better results, which will make you happier, which will make you play even better!

Do you have a special hand you would like to share?

My special hand is a super boring one. I very rarely play tournaments, but I won my first one after 6-7 years of playing poker just days ago, beating a field of 3270 players.

I had QJo from the BB heads-up for the victory as a big chip leader, the SB/BTN made a standard shove for 8bb with 87s I made a standard call and won my first tournament. Boring hand but winning felt amazing! I’ll be remembering that for a long time 🙂

Awesome, thanks a lot for your time and keep it up!

How are you doing these days in general and at the poker tables?

Im doing just great! My last few months in CFP program were quite hard – I focused basicly only on poker.
Now finaly some months after the program I had some time to catch  up on other things like for example moving into a bigger and more comfortable flat, getting back in shape (still in progress ;)).

With Poker im also doing very well, my hourly is constanly increasing, last month I’ve started playing NL1k and I set a new record for my best month : 12k.

Honestly, I was a bit dissapointed about that though,  because it was really close to huge record of 20k.

What do you say about the whole BPC experience? How has it improved your results?

My results after BPC went up from a few hundred Dollars per month to a few thousands every single month and its still increasing.

How is that experience for you of being a coach and sharing your knowledge with the students?

Being a coach gives me a lot of confidence. It is pushing me constantly forward because I teach my students things that I have done myself or I am doing right now to improve my game and myself.

Who would not like to have a coach with these results?!

Where do you actually come from in Poland and how is it to live there?

Currectly I live in Legnica. It is a small city in south-west part of Poland. I moved to Legnica to start my IT studies and I decided to stay here after graduation.

Legnica has a very rich history: Many historical monuments like castles, cathedrals, also a few hundred years old defensive towers and walls. There is a lot to see here.

Also Legnica is really close to the “Karkonosze” National Park. The park is located in the highest part of the Sudetes. Usally I spent my free days there with walking along the mountain paths away from any kind of modern technology.

What are your plans for the future in general and in poker?

My plans for near future? Getting married, building a house, planting a tree 🙂

My poker plans are to countinue doing things which work, grind as much as I can and becoming a poker milionare within the next few years.

How do you motivate yourself to put in the hours at the tables, Maciej?

I will get beheaded if I dont put in the hours 😉

Nubson HU coach at BPC will get beheaded
