How To Beat Procrastination Forever in 3 Minutes

$
0
0

Guys, it’s really easy. I have mentioned before that procrastination happens because

YOUR COMFORT >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> YOUR DREAMS

Maybe you don’t have dreams? Maybe they are not big enough so you can achieve them by doing nothing.

Ok, either way, even if you don’t have dreams, there is a very old method that works in 100% of cases.

THIS METHOD ALWAYS WORKS. You might be too much of a pu$$y to try it out (because you already know the truth deep down!!!), but it does work:

  • Step 1: Define a task you need to get done and add a date to it
  • Step 2: Send an amount of money to a friend
  • Step 3: The friend controls if you have done the task and only then will he return the money. If you have not completed the task 100%, he is NOT allowed to return you even 1 cent.

Some people will be so apathetic that they don’t care about the money lost. They lack complete ambition if they let the money go. The real problem they have is that they still have enough to be mediocre. Those people need a big electro shocker to be woken up!

My advice:

Repeat this process until you are completely broke. If that’s what you have to do, this is what you have to do. Now if you give some “good parent” advice of how this is irresponsible, let me ask you about the alternative…  ? I’d rather be a bum out on the streets than wasting my life. I don’t know what the real difference would be anyways.

Watch the movie SAW

Worst case: You will be broke, but at least you have fast forwarded your life and you understand that you really don’t care at all about money and/or achieving your goals

Best case: At some moment you will wake up and realize that you can’t continue like that. There are quite a lot of famous & successful people who have once been homeless. You can read this article in case you don’t believe me.

3 Advanced Strategies (RICH PEOPLE ONLY):

Some of us have some personal pride and honor going on. This means that if we give our word, it is motivation enough to keep it. We would never give random bs excuses, because our word and trust that people put into us means something.

1) Here is something that works for myself. I work quite well under pressure and can get a lot of things done. Actually, i love working under pressure because it makes me feel more alive. So whenever i procrastinate, i know that there is not enough pressure for me to get something done. In this case promise somebody to get task x done by day x. It is a softer version than the strategy outlined above, but it works quite well for those who would not use bs excuses

2) Artificially lower your available liquidity of money

Let’s say you’re earning 10x more than you really “need” (aka what you are currently spending). This sends a message to your brain that you already have more than enough and don’t need to work hard.

What you can do is lock up your money in the most illiquid way possible (buying a house, apartment… locking it up in a way where accessing the money would cause a lot of pain and work… ideally more work than is needed for you to finish the task you’re procrastinating on!!!

3) Buy stuff and increase your lifestyle in order to match your income

Yep. This is rarely advice you hear because the wannabe “good guys” with “solid advice” would tell you to save a lot of money, right? Well, i’m not against saving money, but if your relative level of security leads to you becoming lazy, for what reason do you save the money in the first place?

Well, all of those strategies, simple or advanced are not really needed if your passion and dreams are big enough. But hey, the truth is that not all of us are reincarnations of Carnegie, Steve Jobs and Elon Musk.

So for all of us mortals, we can use these strategies to get closer to where we want to be.

How To Turn $50 into $100.000 in less than 9 months: CFP with HansTheGreat

HansTheGreat with the BPC sweater "We make Champions"

HansTheGreat with the BPC sweater “We make Champions”

About Sascha aka Hansthegreat today:

He is the best poker player in Croatia, one – if not THE – best poker player at his limit right now in the world. He is a true inspiration not only for the BPC community, but for every poker player in the world who wants to achieve something great. However, it hasn’t always been like that…

Before Entering Coaching For Profits (CFP):

Hans has had small success, but was a micro-stakes player with no real net-worth. He would win some, then go semi-broke. He was an early member in the BPC community. He already improved a lot through the courses. He had a good month due to his ability to grind, but he did not make money consistently.

The challenge:
Start with $50 at the lowest limit (NL2) and work his way up

Here is a link to his blog on BPC, where you can read his fascinating story and every detail from day 1.

Not every community is as helpful and positive like BPC. However, this does not mean that we should not spread our positive message, because among some negative people, there is always the silent majority of smart readers who will be inspired by you.

It did not take too long until somebody had a great piece of “advice”. The worst part is that most people would deep down agree with him and think he is “realistic” and “reasonable”.

What i want you to understand is that there are LOT of guys like that on forums. This guy had more than 300 posts, was a member for almost 4 years and talks like a parent giving “advice”.

I cannot tell you (the reader) how important it is to NOT listen to advice on forums, unless you know the poster is very successful. It is typically the hobby of some messed up idiots to post their poor-people thought process, which sounds “reasonable” to many, because let’s face it: MOST PEOPLE SUCK and will never achieve anything.

IF YOU WANT DIFFERENT RESULTS THAN DONKS, YOU NEED TO BE DIFFERENT!!!!!

On of the first things Gordon told to Hans is that he can not listen to what the idiots on the forum will say. He has to develop the ability to ignore and/or do the opposite of what others say.
If you want to make money at this game, you can’t listen to the propaganda of the losers who never made any money in their life.

Here is what happened a couple months later (after a LOT of struggles which you can read in detail about in Hans’ blog):

Here is what happened almost exactly 9 months after he started with $50 on NL2

Here is the graph for the whole challenge. Keep in mind the $100k consists of $72k made directly on the table (see graph below) and $28k through bonus & rakeback.

Keep in mind that Hans made the MAJORITY of his money once it made “click” in his mind and he fully understood AND applied what his coach Gordon taught him. He played high volume, but as you can see for about 400.000 hands (!!!) , he did NOT make much serious profits.

400k hands seems like an eternity and there are a lot of students who “got it” faster, but i bet 99,9% of readers like the idea of $100k profits after 9 months , starting with only a $50 bankroll.

The point is, most people would have given up. But at BPC we are DIFFERENT. We keep on providing updates even when we’re not crushing from the first day on.

There is a reason why you don’t see publicly documented success stories from day one anywhere else. It takes a lot of dedication and absolute will to never give up. Another reason why students document their progress publicly on blogs is because if we just told the world the results without proof, nobody would believe it’s real.

Because we’re BPC, you don’t have to just hope we’re telling you the truth. It is all publicly documented on independent sites and we’ll present more of those success case studies to you.

You ask why we’re different? Well, there is a reason why you have never read anything like this somewhere else…

The (amazing!) result:
In just 9 months, Hans has turned $50 into $100k.

The video from the Trophy Ceremony:

Hansthegreat on the $teezy Show (starting at 5:32):

What Hans is doing now:

He created his first poker course. It is probably the best course sold on BPC right now.

How To Crush Fish in 2015

He also continued to study and improve on his own, keeping 100% of the profits. He is realizing his dream of traveling around the world and of course he still is a very essential part of the BPC community.

Other players look up for him for inspiration and in a true BPC manner, Hans answers questions and gives a lot of free advice to those who are smart enough to listen.

Interview: SNG Coaching For Profits with Ben “bencb789”

BPC welcomes a new Poker Coach and Coaching For Profits Format; SNG Coaching For Profit with Ben “bencb789”. The German Poker Player and Poker Coach currently resides in Brighton, UK, focusing mainly on his format High Stakes Sit & Go’s. The Proud winner of SCOOP Event #22-H in 2014, helped a lot of Poker Players climb up the stakes and he is ready to take you as his new student! Time for an interview with the great poker-mind.

For those who can’t wait; you can apply for SNG Coaching For Profits HERE!

2014SCOOP-22-H-finaltable

Hi, Ben. Can you first introduce yourself to our community and tell us a bit more about your poker background?

Hi. My name is Ben and I live in Brighton, UK. Most people recognize me under my screen name of bencb789 on Pokerstars. I play mainly Sit and Go´s on Stars. I also grind tournaments every Sunday. I started playing $1 SNGs in 2009. I was so fascinated by SNGs that I have stuck to that format ever since.

Why did you decide to stick to the SNG format and what’s the biggest difference between SNGs and Cash Games?

I think the biggest difference is the fact that you have to handle a lot of different stack sizes in SNGs. Also, you need a well-grounded knowledge about ICM. It’s a very mathematical game. Cash Games is more based on reads and tendencies. In SNGs, you often have the situation that you can`t bluff or play aggressively, given a certain bubble factor. Pre-flop is way more important in SNGs than in Cash Games due playing short-stacked most of the time. That´s why I love to play turbo SNGs, where you play a little bit more deeply in the early game than in hyper turbo SNGs. You have to play a lot of post-flop too. In Cash Games you have more room to play post-flop. You are playing deeper and you have to be very good in playing post-flop. In SNGs you don’t need to be an excellent post-flop player, but it gives you a big advantage if you are. That why I also often play a lot of Cash Games to train my post-flop skills.

What limits do you play? And can you share a bit more of your success as a player and a coach?

I play the hyper-turbos up to 1k and the turbos up to 5k. So, to say, every limit. (check out his SNG results of 2015 in the picture below) I also enjoy playing NL Zoom 500 and 1000. I mean, I have played Highstakes for a long time now and I still beat these games with a decent win rate where Edges are getting smaller and smaller. But to be honest, speaking about my success, I leave that to others. I don`t like that at all. All of my students were very happy after my coaching sessions. All of them assured me that it was the best choice they made hiring me as their coach. And that means a lot to me. And working together with ambitious poker players makes for a lot of fun.

bencb789 2015 SNG sick results

 Leaderboard

What are your poker goals?

I don´t have specific poker goals at all. Becoming better every day is my goal. Keeping focus and staying motivated on bad days is my goal. If I am running bad and had losing sessions, but I tried my best, that’s fine. But losing because of playing unfocused or playing unmotivated is what makes me mad at the end of the day. I think setting specific money goals is not a good idea at all. You are either very disappointed if you don´t reach your goal or you may lose motivation after reaching your goal. But that may vary from person to person. Some people need a certain goal to keep focused and motivated.

Why did you decide to become a coach?

After I had my first coaching sessions, I realized how much fun it is. It means so much to me to work together with ambitious player and to see their progress after every coaching session.

How did you get in contact with bestpokercoaching.com and why did you decide to partner up?

Gordon coached me 3 or 4 years ago. I wanted to improve my Cash Game and my post-flop skills. And we kept in touch since then. One day we agreed each other to work together. We both realized we have similar approaches toward life and work ethics. From the very beginning, Gordon was also a very trustful person, which is very important to me to partner up with someone.

What can students expect from the SNG Coaching for Profits deal? When can we apply?

Students can expect the best mentoring they will ever get. I really enjoy coaching. So I will take care of every single student. But I also expect a lot of my students. You have to give 100%. I will only work together with ambitious poker players who have the will to put a lot of effort in becoming a great poker player. If you want to crush the highest stakes, I am your man. But you have to do your homework.

Can you give us some last advice: why should we choose to play SNGs?

It’s actually pretty easy and fast to learn if you know how. And I can show you how. Compared to Cash Games, you can climb up the stakes way faster.

Bulgaria strikes back: M1ndctrl finishes CFP 60k HU program

Our one and only M1ndctrl. It’s sad to see him finish the program, because it has been one big fun ride.

bul_hoodie_bw_wm

He didn’t beat Rylan on the record, but says the war is on. His real story just began!

KARMA ALERT: Guys, go in and congratulate him. Those who want to congratulate and read about his progress from DAY 1 , go and check out M1ndctrl’s blog on BPC

As far as I (Gordon BPC) am aware, he was the only Bulgarian currently in the program. Hopefully there are some Bulgarians who want to do better and crack Rylan’s CFP record(s).

Ok, it’s just a short news piece. A more detailed interview + case study will (hopefully!) follow in the future.

bul_suit_bw_wm

People in CFP HU will lose a mate that always motivated them, but they will win a coach who will push them harder and make them even better

BPC is very happy that M1ndctrl remains as a coach on board and will continue to help others move forward in their development as a player.

He will be greatly missed in the monthly rankings, which he has managed to win 2 times in a row.

He crushed the fish, beat the mediocre… and now he is on his way to destroy the regs!

Our player Piotr “Goodfake” has made more than 11.656 Euro in August and for the first time made 5-figure profits in one month.

 mmm_suit_wm

Well, you should learn from him on how to play poker, definitely not how to update blogs. Well, as long as he crushes, we pretend nothing happened and we will keep our eyes closed;)

So motivate him to blog more regularly, HERE

One big reason for him to take the next step in his career was to move from Poland to ******* Slovenia and live together with other BPC players.

In the seminar in Dubrovnik we have talked about how important our environment is. Same people took action right away and you see what happens!

=======================================

Our player Jan “somebody” has made his first 5-figure profits month as well! 10.025 Euro to be exact.

Congrats!

Rovar no longer CFP Manager but remains as Consultant

BPC Company Announcement:

From tomorrow, Monday September 21st on, Rovar will no longer be the CFP manager. We already hired a project manager who will take care of many tasks and will keep adding new members to our team.

Why? The reason is quite simple. He wanted less of this:

Rovar CFP Manager

and more of this:  😎   😉

Rovar CFP on the right

Dubrovnik. CFP developer Robert “humbuk007” on the left and Rovar on the right

Ok, here is the real reason:
We (BPC) are a victim of our own success. Rovar has done a great job as the CFP manager, but he makes too much money playing poker. BPC simply can’t pay him 10x as much as we would pay a “normal” person for the same job.

We couldn’t compete on the $$$. Rovar has already informed us about this more than a month ago, so we had time to find a replacement. Part of the work will stay in the family as his wife took over some work already.

Of course there is no such thing as a real replacement for him, but BPC grows and our software is improving at a daily rate so other parts of his tasks will also be automated in the future.

Rovar of course will remain a friend and consultant to BPC and we should expect to see him (and perhaps his family) at future BPC events.

What will change for the users? Nothing. Of course besides the fact that you make sure to NOT write emails in Slovenian anymore ;).

BPC thanks Rovar for a great time together working. You, Rovar, have helped BPC grow to where it is right now and you’re an integral part of our history!

Gl on the tables!!!

P.s.: Gl, unless its vs CFP students. We’ll crush your soul 😉

Somebody, Goodfake or Nubson. Who will win the rankings in September?

$
0
0

With the absence of M1ndctrl and $teezy – who both finished CFP – in addition to @vars focussing more on quality instead of volume, the fight for the top places is more open than ever before.

rankings in September

With one week to go, Jan “Somebody” has a slight lead over Piotr “Goodfake” . The two of them are leading head to head for a few days now.
The biggest comeback of the month was Maciej “Nubson”. After the toughest 2 months with running insanely below EV in addition to bad plays, he showed more than anybody else the real spirit of a BPC member.
He had a great day today and is only 300 Euro away from first place. At HU, 300 Euro is one pot going the right way, so basically Somebody’s lead is super thin.

Who do we root for to win?

Somebody:
He had a LOT of “almost” wins in the past. But then there was always some mofo who had an above average and insane performance. So far he was the winner of the hearts and cracked the magical 10k mark for the first time in August. Will he also become the winner of the minds and most $$$ in September?

Goodfake:
Since moving to Maribor, his performance skyrocketed. He is the “newcomer” in the fight for the top rankings. Good work ethic, but terrible blogging ethic. Well, he puts in more hands at HU than anybody else. He plays like crazy and fights a lot. Enough to deserve the win?

Nubson:
The biggest comeback. He already won the rankings in May. He’s been there and done that. But after his terrible run he definitely has some sympathies on his side. He said he just wants to make the 10k and doesn’t care about winning the rankings. Do we really believe him or does he have some evil plans in the back of his mind?

@Vars:
Never underestimate the shark from Riga. Yes, he is 2k behind the top, but it’s one week to go. He’s shown all of us in the past that work ethic and putting in hours is NOT a problem for him. Also, as a 6max player we can only speculate if his RB has already been paid and added to profits. He’s always a danger and the guys on the top should never feel too safe.

Who do you root for? Who deserves to win? Let us know your opinion. Who would you bet on?

Here is Jan’s review from Dubrovnik a couple months ago. Big shoot-out to his favorite coach Rovar, who had a great part in his progress.

Overall September report:

Screenshot 2015-10-03 14.31.30

There is a real change of generations happening at the moment. For a couple of months we have not allowed new players into the system. This means there is a gap between big winners and newcomers. The current generation finishes and drops out of the CFP program. Others will have to close that gap. We have a lot of great new talents on board.

Best Newcomers for September:

This title definitely goes to the players Sigil “Knelse” and Danny “Danxity” who both made around 4k Euro in profits. I (Gordon) remember personally how i screamed at Danxity just 2-3 months ago at micro stakes what a stupid donk he is for making a certain play. He took it like a champ and improved quite a lot! Dan “KKballer” and Tomas “Maestro” also showed big improvements, but they’re not newcomers.

Who are the favorites to win the leaderboard in October:

Somebody, Nubson, Goodfake and Atvars are definitely the big favorites for October. I would not be surprised at all tho to see a completely new name showing up.
Atvars is close to finishing CFP and become the NEW RECORD HOLDER for the fastest CFP finisher. The old record holder Rylan will then have his title changed to record HU finisher. But, as the Germans say “don’t praise the day before the evening”.

1) Who is your favorite to win October?
2) Can Atvars become the new CFP record finisher?
3) Who will be the newcomer in October?

Let us know your opinion!

Atvars 60k From April 12th to October 6th, 2015

Before:
Averaging around 2-3k, best month being USD 5k.

After:
Simple math tells us that his AVERAGE was higher than 10k Euro. This is insane considering it was during the learning period.

We DO make Champions!

(This post will updated once we have more nice Graphs from him)

The truth is we could have even been faster, but we decided that in September we would rather focus on some detailed quality work instead of him grinding himself to death.

How did everything get started?

In March 2015 i get an email from Skrill that somebody has sent me 2500 Euro for 5+1 hours of coaching. I tell my assistant that i don’t have time for this and that we should refund the guy. Even told him that directly.
So i email “that guy”, we talk, but he definitely seemed committed and wanted coaching at any price. I only later found out the real reason (watching his review video on youtube).

Now many people in the past gave me the “i’ll do anything” speech, but then often it’s an empty promise. So i was skeptical. I was super busy at that time, but my promise to myself was always to help those who were willing to kill for success. It’s because of my own trauma. I wished there was somebody like that for me when i started playing poker – but there wasn’t.
That’s the emotional part, but there is also always the business part. Today we can accept anybody into our CFP system, but back then it wasn’t possible. So i needed to test his commitment and asked him to make a HUGE security deposit (a LOT bigger than the normal we ask for), which would be non-refundable.

Screenshot 2015-10-06 10.44.25

Some people on 2p2 or pokerstrategy who like think of themselves as “smart and critical” would have never accepted this. And that’s why Atvars is today where he is and they are where they are (living their boring lives of mediocracy).
Neither Atvars nor myself are religious, but we both had FAITH (he probably wouldn’t use that word), because the odds are never in your favor when you achieve greater than usual things.

Skeptics always assume they are wrong. Winners know that they could be wrong, but they do it anyways. Because if you aim for Mars and fall, you’re still among STARS.

lat_suit_bw_wm

What are his biggest strength:

  • Focus. Others in the group also said that he would not be distracted by skype or other noise
  • Preparation for coachings. Like Rylan and others, he was always perfectly prepared. I can almost always judge by the level of preparation how good a student will be
  • He gave me the benefit of the doubt (see youtube review). Many students need to “understand” why they do something. Yes, it’s always great if you understand things, but very often the big problem is that if you really understood WHY i tell you to do something, you would not need it in the first place. I call this the coaching dilemma
  • Work ethic. He put in the hours. Listen, no matter how smart you are, for extraordinary success you need to put in the hours
  • He never complained about anything. The only thing he was worried was to finish the program to fast and then not get any coaching anymore. LOL, we solved this. All people who finish CFP have access to me in case they need help anyways, but i did not want him to finish later for the wrong reasons. But yes, FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!!!
  • He is definitely obsessed with becoming better at this game
  • He was already a winning plaer at NL100. We should not hide this fact. Sometimes this is an obstacle because some people at this limit believe they know it all. In his case it was helpful because our discussion started on a higher level. I had to “unlearn” him a few things, but not nearly as much as others

Drunk game in Dubrovnik. From left to right: Sejmen1950, Crazyhorse, Nathy and Atvars

Drunk game in Dubrovnik. From left to right: Sejmen1950, Crazyhorse, Nathy and Atvars

Funny Fact:
Atvars actually NEVER won the monthly profit leaderboard. There was always somebody else who binked a bigger month at the right time. Whether it was Iron who beat him by 50Euro or $teezy, M1ndctrl, Nubson or in September “Somebody”.
This month after 6 days he is already up over 6k, but since he is “out” of CFP, he wont have a shot at this one either;)

It could have been a lot faster, but he was so happy about his 2nd consecutive 10k+ month in September (actually made 14kEuro) that he decided to go lazy and party the first 10 days of October with some of his university friends and BPC guys.

He was soooo distracted that he didn’t even realize that he finished the program!!! A few nights ago Janez contacted me and told me “Jan finished CFP” and I’m (Gordon) like wtf… why did he not tell anybody…

Funny/weird/annoying nickname:

SOMEBODY is definitely a marketing genius for giving himself the nickname “somebody”. He has caused so much confusion in the past year, it was amazing.
Every time in coaching when i said “can somebody do xxx or yyy” i had to justify myself and say “somebody in the group, not  SOMEBODY SOMEBODY” . Here is his (deeper) explanation with which i fully agree:

Screenshot 2015-10-22 01.44.53

Record Holder:

He does not know this, but he is the current record holder for the best month in HU-CFP. Yes,Imachampion had a 35k month (motivation!!!, u can beat the asian kid, come on!!!) but in the “scaled” version of BPC no HU player – not even the fastest finisher Rylan – had a 14k Euro month.

His Thank You Post (Link):

The Future:

I have to say that in his last coaching as a CFP member he got beaten badly in a training match against M1ndctrl and myself, so if we follow on what he said in his last post, then the poker world should be veeeery scared that he’ll turn into another somebody.
On the other side he’s started to explore many different things as he has mentioned (developing a board game, work as BPC coach, his own software addition for BPC).

I’m curious in which way he’ll go, but if he continues with the pace of where he started, big things can be expected.

P.s.: Only good news about this is that 1 less Slovenian voting power inside of CFP 😉

This is great news for BPC. As the founder, i have (too) many responsibilities and it’s ultimately better for BPC and our students if the responsibility is in more hands. We can only grow as a team not as a one-man-show. This also reflects the changes inside of BPC and the fast growth of our team.

The new BPC CFP Heads Up Head Coach – Ivan “M1ndctrl”

For that reason we’re more than happy to announce that we reached an agreement with one of our most popular coaches – m1ndctrl – to become the new HU Head Coach.

A huge plus for our students is that he has gone through the program himself and knows what it takes!

M1ndctrl fits perfectly into BPC as we share the most important values. Of course he has his own views & ideas on things, which he will be able to implement and even improve our program further.

We will have an interview with him soon so people outside of BPC will get to know him better as well!

Welcome on board and cheers to a great future!

BASIC POKER MATH: All you need to know about pot odds, part 1

$
0
0

Is a $10 bet big or small? What about a bet of $500? If you don’t know the answer to that question from the top of your head, you know too little about the basic poker concept called pot odds to make any sort of money at the poker tables. If you do know it, you probably remember when somebody (perhaps your coach at BPC) asked you that question, and you didn’t quite know what to say.

You might know which hands to 3B  bluff (none of them, until you know what pot odds are!), but really you are missing a basic part of the poker puzzle. You would be well served to cover the basics before going back to the tables – this will allow you to understand the game you are playing for yourself, and not simply repeating learned moves. But, first things first. What are pot odds?

Ok, so now you understand what pot odds are. In fact, you might be thinking to yourself, hell, I knew that, I don’t need Phil to tell me these things. It’s a simple, but often overlooked concept. Everybody knows about it, right? Nothing new here, that you didn’t know before. Or, is it? Do you really know it? Let’s say the pot is 100$. Villain bets 43$. What are the pot odds being offered to you? Or, let’s say the pot is 75$. If you bet 125, what are the pot odds you are offering your opponent?

Do you need to stop and think, perhaps calculate in your mind? If so, it’s not good enough. What good does it do you at the tables, if you know how to calculate pot odds, but don’t know them on the fly? Will you take a break to calculate the odds? No, you have no time. You have to memorize them, you have to drill it in your head. Why do you think all top performers practice long hours, in any field? You think they are just randomly born great? They are not. They practice the little, boring things every day, until they become great.

If you want to play poker, even for fun, it will serve you well to practice – unless you don’t like money, in which case you can still have fun at the tables – just make sure to let me know which times you are playing :D.

But enough about practice, you get the point. Next step – what should you practice? There’s so many possible numbers to calculate, and recalculate… Don’t worry. You don’t have to know all the possible variations, it is enough if you memorize the standard bet sizes, and a few more. You see, even if you play No-limit, most people still play like it’s Pot-limit. They don’t overbet, or do it very rarely. So go for the low-hanging fruit, memorize the easy, most common spots.

You also don’t have to punch these numbers by yourself, we have already done the work for you, and you can download our cheet-sheets below, absolutely FREE of charge. I promise you, these are the only pot odds you will ever need to know in your life. This is the chart all of our biggest winning CFP students are using. Download the pack with 2 desktop wallpapers, and 2 different PDF versions.

The All-you-need pot odds chart (Desktop Wallpaper)

You can see, that’s not a lot of numbers. But if you don’t know them byu heart, it might as well be 10 pages. So print them out, and look at them regularly, as often as you need to, untill they become second nature. Trust me, this is what all the big CFP winners have done, and are still doing. I should know, I went through the program myself. Often, there is no secret to success. It’s just a lot of small things done right, and done consistently.

In poker, knowing the pot odds like the back of your hand is one of those small things. Of course, that is just the beginning, and we will cover a lot more stuff in the future, to make sure you have the toolbox you need to survive at the tables. I say survive, because the games are tough out there these days, and to make money you have to push youself, and often need a mentor, whether in one of our CFP programs, or elswhere, if you’re lucky enough to find someone on similar level, who is willing to take you on.

But no coach will do the work for you. So – download, print it out, set it as your desktop wallpaper and start memorizing the chart today!

GL at the tables!

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot – the answer to the question at the beginning: it depends on the size of the pot, of course. But you already know that by now.

BASIC POKER MATH: All you need to know about pot odds and equity, part 2

The pot is 100$. Villain bets 50$ on the flop. As you know by now, the pot odds offered to you, are 25%. So, you need 25% to win. Should you call with second pair? Well, you might think, it depends on the hand he has. Ok, let’s say he has an overpair. Should you call, getting 25% on your call? Why, or why not? Meet equity.

In the previous post we borrowed Phil Hellmuth to introduce the basic concept of pot odds. Yes, it’s a basic concept, but I bet many of you don’t have your odds and percentages memorized to the point of automatism, which is the only good enough level. That’s why we provided you with the simple chart all of our students use and memorize. In case you missed it, you can download it below. You will get 4 different versions, including desktop wallpaper variants to use as your background. These are the very basics, and you do need to know them.

The All-you-need pot odds chart (Desktop Wallpaper)

The second part of this simple concept is the concept of equity. Now, these 2 concepts are so inter-related, that Phil explains them both in his video. So go back to it, if you’re not sure what equity is. Or, take a look at this CardsChat article on the topic, make sure you understand the concept. After you do, you are ready to practice your understanding of equity. And this is the focus of my article. Just as with pot odds, it is not enough to understand the concept in theory, you have to know the numbers on the fly at the tables, when you are playing.

Let’s say you are facing a bet. You have to know what the odds being offered to you are, given the size of the bet, and you have to know if your hand has enough equity to call that bet. The first part you should know by now. The second part you will know after finishing the article. So, how do you practice equity? First, you will need an equity calculator. We can recommend a tool like Equilab, which is free and commonly used. Once you have it, you can start practicing.

Take a look at the video below, to see the exact steps how our CFP students are practicing daily. In fact, you can browse their blogs and see many of them post results of their practice every day. Being a former CFP student myself, I remember the origin of this daily practice from back in the day. As far as I know, the first guy in the CFP who started practicing this regularly, was Rylan. Yup, that’s right, the current record CFP HU finisher, who hit almost $9000 on his best day during his epic run from 0 to 60k in 8 months – which is still the daily record in all of CFP. If you browse through his blog, you will find countless equity calculations – given his results, it’s no surprise we all started doing them pretty soon as well… :) And so should you. Take a look at the video below, and learn how to do it the BPC way.

So this was the basic equity exercise we all started doing. And, BPC would not be BPC, if we didn’t wind ways to improve on everything. So, soon Oskar, our fellow student, made an awesome program called UhlvarEquity, which made this practice even faster and, well, more fun! Check out the video guide from Oskar himself, to learn about this cool little program:

The UhlvarEquity program took off in the BPC community, and everybody is using it these days. You can come up with your own ways of using it and testing yourself, for example a popular variation of testing yourself is demonstrated in the video below by BPC founder and head coach for the 6-max program, Gordon, with his student IronBPC:

By the way, you can get the awesome Uhlvar equity program for free, click below and you can download it to use it yourself.

Uhlvar Equity

GET THE FREE UHLVAR EQUITY TRAINING APP HERE >>

And these are all the tools you will ever need to practice equity. These are simple exercises, and anybody can do them – but the point its, not everybody is doing them. Again, we come back to the point that there is no big secret to success, there’s just a lot of the little things done right and consistently, which will take you where you want to be. The trick is to know what to focus on, and then – to just fucking do it! – like one of the BPC commandments goes.

Piotr “Goodfake” Crushes out of the CFP 60k in Style!

Today the current CFP HU record month holder finished the CFP 60k program, and wrapped up an epic run he began after our Dubrovnik seminar. Piotr “Goodfake” joined the HU CFP in December 2014, and persisted through not-so-great of a starter run, only to become a superstar in the HU program, and setting a record month of 14352 EUR winnings in October.

His record will be hard to beat for the guys coming after him, though no doubt many in the CFP have other ideas already.

Goodfake’s CFP in numbers – The Graph

Piotr’s is a true story of perseverance, and an “aha” moment, so typical in many students’ development. Remarkably, after 8 months in the program, at the start of August, he was on 20k winnings – around 2.5-3k per month. For those of you, who do not know it, or were not yet a part of the BPC community at that point – BPC held a poker seminar in Dubrovnik at the end of July, and Piotr is arguably the guy who took the most out of it (next to Steezy of course).

After the seminar, he moved to Slovenia – apparently a natural breeding ground for BPC’s success-stories – since the Rovar days, and all the way through to Jan “Somebody”, who finished last month, just ahead of Goodfake. (And let’s not forget Steezy’s epic 30k August imediately after moving to Slovenia.)

Piotr in Dubrovnik with Michal, a fellow BPC CFP HU grinder

And, then came the turnaround. Piotr, averaging under 3k monthly for almost 8 months, suddenly hit 11k in his first post-Dubrovnik month. And then repeated the feat the month after, and then did even better in the third month – hitting the infamous 14.5k. Put otherwise, from December to August, he completed 20k of the 60k contract – and in the next 3 months accumulated 40k in profits to finish the contract in style!

We would of course all like to know what they were feeding him in Maribor (his new Slovenian home) – we hear it was a diet of fish, regs, BPC coachings and Slovenian girls.

Another champion comes through the ranks in BPC

Anyway, another member finishes CFP, which means – the glove is thrown to all the rest! If you need more motivation, you can read his real-life success story on his blog, from day one when it began.

Congratz to Piotr for a great achievement, he will be a force at the tables in the years to come, unless he decides to crush some other field in the future. Good luck in the future, man, hope we will meet at the next BPC meeting – after all, you have to come for the award ceremony!

The Importance of Standard lines

$

What are standard lines? Standard lines are your basic go-to moves in common situations. It’s your initial game plan, your default approach to playing against your opponents. You see, when you are playing a lot of poker, you want to be able to eliminate as much of the unnecessary thinking at the tables as possible – that doesn’t mean you want to stop thinking, far from it.

It means you want to free your mind from all the things you do NOT have to think about at the tables, if you only come well prepared into the game. An example of this are simple pot odds numbers. If you know them by heart, you will save time and energy at the tables each time you face a bet. You will automatically ”get” what price you are being offered. Similarly, if you practice equity calculations, you will also know if the price you are being offered is good or bad considering your hand. Of course, you will also have to estimate your opponent’s ranges to make a good decision, but that’s a subject for another time.

The point is, if you know these things – which you can easily practice and memorize before you sit at the tables – you will have more time and energy to focus on the ”meat” of the game, the table dynamics, observing your opponents, thinking about their game plan and recent history, and so on. If you don’t have these things drilled to the level of automatism, you are at a disadvantage.

So, back to the topic. What is the meaning of standard lines, in this context? Well, if you’ve played a few hands of poker in your life, you know things can very quickly get complicated and messy at the tables. Many different opponents, different positions, different possible actions before it’s your turn, and so on. There are A LOT of different scenarios that can unravel in the course of one hand. In fact, so many, that some have been saying it’s impossible to solve them all even with the use of the most sophisticated computers, though that preconception may be changing fast.

It doesn’t really matter – what matters is, there are a lot of possible scenarios, enough that even computers have problems considering all of them. So, when you are faced with a decision at the tables, what do you do? Do you start considering that particular hand from the beginning, for each action that was taken so far, and you do this after each move somebody makes in the hand? Do you think ahead what you will do next, or two moves ahead? How do you cope with all the possible options? And the answer is standard lines.

You need a general plan for the common situations, upon which you can rely. That way, you will never get too confused at the tables, and if you do, you can just fall back on your default standard line, and know that you’ll be fine in the long run – assuming that your standard lines are any good, of course. Here is a short speech by GordonBPC (BPC Founder and Head Coach for the CFP 6-max programs), about the importance of standard lines, and how to approach the topic. The clip is taken from our CFP Crusher program, so don’t worry if some things don’t apply for you. If you are a beginner or struggling to make money at the tables, you can definitely use the No BS lines to great effect. You will find them for download below. But first, watch the clip.

So, now that you understand the importance of having solid standard lines, your very own game plan, all that is left to do, is to – DO IT! Yes, it may seem daunting at first, especially if you’ve never done this before. Don’t worry, we will get you started. If you need help, download the No Bullshit Standard lines that all of our CFP Micro students are using as their default strategy.

Think of it as your cheet-sheet; you do not have to create from scratch what has already been done by BPC and works great for our students at the tables. It will give a solid foundation to your game.

2

GET THE NO-BS STANDARD LINES FOR FREE

Use the charts, and you will never be lost at the tables. But remember – no system will get you all the way, you will have to tweak it and adapt it as you move up in stakes, and on top of that still think and be flexible at the tables. But without a system of standard lines, you have no chance at the tables.

The Mental Game of Poker

$

Do you understand why you tilt? Why you are fearful? Why you lose confidence? Check out the break-down of the mental game of poker by Jared Tendler. Jared, according to his website, »coaches over 400 poker players, including some of the best in the world«. You may or may not be sceptical of mental coaches, but in any case you do not have to spend a lot of money to gain from their insights. Jared posted a 2-part video series, build around the concepts in his books, and you can check out the videos below.

Jared has a psychology background, and he definitely understands some things about how the human mind works, and he probably understands them better than your average poker player, so you might get a few of those »aha« moments watching his videos.

For example, one of the mental game myths, as he calls them, is the thinking that emotions happen for irrational reasons. In other words, people oversimplify and dismiss the reasons behind their emotional reactions, and thereby block their understanding of them. The premise here is, that by figuring out the reasons behind your emotional reaction to, say, a bad beat, or an aggressive opponent, you will be in a better position to understand and ultimately change your reactions. Know thyself, as the Delfi commandment goes, and – the truth shall set you free, brother.

If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.

Sun Tsu

If you get angry or frustrated playing against an aggressive opponent (and I know many players do, as I have seen it and heard it just about a million time in coachings), there is a reason for it – and it’s not your aggressive opponent. It’s your (flawed) understanding of the game. In particular, you have beliefs about the game, that are now being met with reality which is opposing those beliefs.

Jared would tell you – if you look inside yourself, and understand what is driving your reaction, you might find a reason that looks something like this: You do not feel comfortable in this situation, because you do not know how to deal with this type of player. That’s obvious, right? What is not so obvious, is why can’t you deal with a player that is obviously a fish, albeit an aggressive one. You should be able to beat this guy, right? And you might feel and say to yourself that he is an idiot, yet you can’t get the best out of him. And you get titled. We’ve all been there. »How can I not beat this stupid idiot?!«

Well, if you can handle the truth – because you are not good enough, obviously. There can be no other reason (of course, you may say to yourself, that you are just unlucky, if you wish). And the anger comes out of the fact that you think that you are better than you really are. You thought you are better than this guy, an obvious donkey. But you can’t beat him. So you get angry about it. Reality doesn’t conform with your ideas about reality, and that makes you upset. It’s not the fact you can’t beat this guy, it’s the fact that you thought you are able to beat him, but you’re not. And you can’t take that.

Of course the rabbit hole goes much deeper than that, and you are free to explore it on your own. Jared’s videos are a good start, and you might get some understanding into how you really think about poker, whether you agree with him or not. So, take some time, and check out the videos below.

PART 1

PART 2

I’ve often heard it said in the BPC, that success at the tables is hugely (if not mostly) reliant upon your mental attitude and composure. Poker is not rocket-science; it can be, if you want it to be, but to win good money, that is not necessary at all. Most people play so bad, that you just have to stay focused and do the simple moves over and over again, and you will win, a lot. Like our most successful students often say: I couldn’t believe this shit would work, but I did it anyway – and it worked!

I recently wrote about Goodfake and his explosion after the BPC Dubrovnik seminar. A similar thing happened to Steezy. 3 days of listening to how to develop the right attitude and take action to support it, had an immediate and amazing effect. And to some level or another, it happens to all of our winners – or they had the right attitude from the start already. You need a strong mind in this game. And whatever you can do to develop the right attitude, you should take advantage of.

Nubson finishes the CFP with a personal record day of 4k+ EUR!

Maciej »Nubson« finished the HU 60k CFP program today after an epic 15-hour session ended up with over 4k EUR in profits. This session will count as the 2nd best HU daily session in the HU CFP, being the best daily score after Rylan’s unforgettable 8k EUR back in March.

Nubson started the CFP strong, winning the first monthly rankings, and finished strong, and is most likely going to win the last one as well. He is indeed no stranger to taking down the monthly rankings, as he won them 3 times during his CFP program already, more than any other CFP-er so far. Adding to that another victory would certainly set the mark high for any hopeful contenders in the future. It took him a bit over a year to finish the 60k program, overcoming a brutal 7k-under-EV run a couple of months ago, which would break many guys, but did nothing less than inspire him to another 10k month right after it ended. After that roller-coster, a beer is certainly in order…

DSC_0169_wm

On top of that, he started coaching other BPC students back in February, and has helped many students on their own way to the finish line. After Goodfake, he is another member whose life was marked by the BPC’s Dubrovnik seminar this summer – he proposed to the love of his life during the seminar and got engaged on the Croatian beaches. Finishing the CFP and becoming the master of all of his profits from now on, is certainly a nice wedding present to himself, and Mrs. Nubsonova certainly won’t be short on shoes this winter… 😉
DSC_0247_wm
As the month is still not over, and he is at 10k winnings already, Goodfake’s HU monthly record and with that his place on the CFP Hall of Fame is certainly in danger of being broken as Nubson’s last act as a CFP student. The race is on, stay tuned to see who will come out on top!

Congratz to Maciej, well done and good luck in the future! See you at the next award ceremony! 😉

Why all winning poker players fish (and why you should as well)

$

Do you bumhunt? Should you bumhunt? Should you be ashamed of bumhunting? Is it for weaklings, and real man battle regs? Let’s talk about bumhunting. I assume everybody is familiar with the term, but just for completeness’ sake, here is a definition from PokerKing.com:

A “bumhunter” is somebody who takes a seat at an online heads-up cash game table and refuses to play anybody that isn’t, in their opinion, a weak opponent.

Basically, to bumhunt means to refuse to play good players. And, as you probably know, it is a somewhat  polemical topic in the poker community. In fact, most of the community considers it as something negative. For example, PokerKing writes a bit further after giving the definition, that “Bumhunting has gotten so bad on some sites that new rules and policies have had to be developed just to deal with the situation”.

It sounds almost like a disease. It has “gotten so bad”… So clearly, the connotation is, that it is negative. Here’s more proof that the community is frowning upon bumhunting. This is from durrrrchallenge.com:

Over the last many years, there has become an all too common practice at online poker sites known as ‘bum-hunting’. It is essentially an unethical and extremely annoying practice wherein advanced poker players sit at moderately priced tables in an effort to prey upon less experienced players who may stumble upon that table looking for a cash game.

So, here we have a sharper condemnation of the practice, not simply an implied one. In fact, the title of the article is “Tom Dwan Applauds as PokerStars Puts an End to Annoying Bum-Hunting“, and the author goes on to quote Tom himself tweeting:

@TomDwan seems like stars is taking some steps to improve the bumhunting situation. pretty happy about this; should be good for poker overall

There are, however, also those who don’t shy away from the practice, and – strangely – don’t even feel THAT bad about doing it, though a hint of guilt is present in this article, which Katie Dozier wrote over at CardPlayer.com: Confessions of a Bumhunter.

“Confessions”… One “confesses” what one is embarrassed about, or feels guilty about. Now, make no mistake, Katie does not feel like that at all, and is honest about it. But… She is a woman. Doesn’t that further confirm that bumhunting is not, well, for real men?? Sure, it’s fine for a woman to admit bumhunting, but a respected player doing it? It would be like coming out of the closet…

Now, that said, change the terms a bit, and start calling it “table selection”, and thing suddenly start looking more positive. Everybody knows that table selecting is what a “good professional” does. Hell, there is even software out there, like TableScan Turbo, which helps you bumhunt! Ooops, I meant – “table select”. The tag line for them is “Professional Table Selection Software”. Interesting.

It seems there are not only people willing to do it despite the condemnation of the community, but there are actually enough of them that you can make a software and market it to them. There is a need for it on the market. So what is going on here? Where are the people on forums defending their practice of bumhunting? Sure, you might find the occasional crusader, but by and large they remain silent, buying TableScan Turbo quietly, in shame, with their heads hung down in shame… Or, are they?

Perhaps there are other motives for not speaking out on it? Like, for example, self interest? Perhaps – it’s an interesting idea – they enjoy other people playing hard opponents, while they themselves scoop out all the remaining fish, whom apparently nobody wants to play out of pride? Who knows.

What is certain, is that things are not as clear, or at least they don’t appear to be. Should you bumhunt? Are others really not doing it? Should you do it some of the time, but then sometimes also not, so that you don’t feel like a total pussy? Is it all a matter of personal taste? To an extent, yes.

Namely, it is your decision, what you want out of poker. I say that, but of course if I had to guess, 99% of people want money out of poker. One way or another. So, let’s dig a bit deeper.

What do you think – does Tom Dwan not want to make money in poker?  Of course he does, we can agree on that. Now – here comes the interesting question: Will Tom Dwan win money in poker playing only better opponents than himself? (Let’s not debate about how good he is or is not, and just assume there are better players out there, not an outrageous proposition). So, will Tom win money in poker playing better players than himself?

Take a minute and think about it, if you have to.

You shouldn’t have to, really. The answer is a clear, bold, fat – no. Nobody will win money in poker playing better players than himself. All poker winnings (at the table, or via rakeback) come by beating worse players than you are. There is no other source of income at the tables – the ONLY source of income for you are worse players than you are.

So, let’s put 1 and 1 together. Tom wants to win money in poker. You can only win money in poker playing worse players than you are. So – by simple logic, we MUST conclude that Tom – wait for it – wants to play worse players than he himself is. …WHAT??!

What is going on here? Why is he condemning bumhunting, if in reality he too wants to, well, bumhunt. You can say, well, he doesn’t want to ONLY bumhunt, he also plays good players, which makes it OK. Sure, he busts the occasional fish or two, but he is all about battling the Junglemans of this world. Oh, wait…

The only way for anybody to ever win in poker (long-term), is to play worse players than he is. Every better player you play, will lower your income. You might say, well, but you can only get better by playing better players. Not true, far from it. You can observe other players (training sites), get coaching (BPC), analyse your game, read books… There’s tons of ways to get better. No need to play better players than you.

And in any case, that is never the debate – the debate is about the “ethical” principles of bumhunting. If you buy into that debate, you are being fooled. The debate itself is not a rational debate. You might as well debate about which color is nicer, blue or green. Who cares.

But what you should NEVER do, is start feeling bad about making money playing only worse players than you are. If there is even a hint of that inside you – your vision is fogged, and you are being emotionally manipulated. Poker is a business. YOU don’t have to treat it as a business, but that won’t make the fact that it IS a business go away. People play poker to win money. People offer venues to play poker to win money. People write, teach other people how to play, in return for – you guessed it, money.

When they play the world championship of poker, so to speak, and the guy wins – what were all those people playing for, what is the motive? The bracelet? I guess I can see it in that photo somewhere… I think it’s between his hands, I guess. Not sure… What I am sure about, there seems to be a lot of – money! – on the photo.

If you are still unsure, and perhaps in doubt to what he was playing for, check out his interview. You don’t have to watch more than 10 seconds of it, to get the idea. The first question the reporter asked him was – “what comes with the win” (or something like that, it’s ineligible to me). But the first thing that comes out of his mouth is very clear…

The sign overlaid in the video as he is being interviewed, spells: “Joseph McKeehen. 2015 WSOP Main Event Champion: $7,683,346”. Do you understand now? Why do they write the amount of $ he won? Where else do you see that? “Usain Bolt, 100 Meters Men, Olympic Gold Medalist: $2 000 000…” I don’t recall seeing that sort of signs anywhere but in poker. Usain doesn’t take a photo at the end with a bunch of money, he and 2 other guys get the medals, he stands on the podium and they play the anthem and take photos. They don’t bring a shit-ton of money and put it next to the podium for the photos. (Not that sports is not a business, don’t get me wrong.)

But, win a poker tournament – the first piece of info will be: how much did you win?? Why is that? Because we all get it – the players, the spectators, the producers, the journalists – this game is about winning money.

Now, there may be somebody who will say “But what about those millionaire type guys, who just play for fun and a challenge”? Yes, there are some exceptions, for sure.

Who cares?? Are YOU that millionaire?? If not, those are likely the sort of questions that will prevent you from getting anywhere near becoming one. Do you think that those millionaires got the money by finding the hardest possible opportunity on the market? Do you think they wake up and say to themselves “Today, I’m going to invest a lot of money into a company selling ice to Eskimos. Because I just like a good challenge, and selling them heaters is too easy.”

Hell, no. They bumhunt like crazy in their business, to make the money. Ok, full disclosure – I don’t really know if that is what they think to themselves, I didn’t make that sort of money in business – but I assume that’s not far from it.

Of course, if you do want to know what a real-life poker millionaire suggests you to do, you can get a free article out of his book below.

Anyway, back to the topic. Don’t be fooled. This game is about the money. And there is nothing good or bad about it, it’s just how it is. So the only good reason to start feeling bad about how you approach your game, is if you don’t make money in poker. Because then you know you are doing something wrong, that you don’t get this game, not in it’s totality.

So, should you “Table select”? Of course. Should you bumhunt? That’s the same thing. It would be stupid not to do it.

I will leave you with an article by ThePokerCapitalist. It’s a great read, and goes also into the role of the pokersites in this story (hint: Pokerstars is not about making the games more “ethical”, they are about – making money). If you are one of those who is still on the fence about bumhunting, I really suggest you sit down and really thing about it. I certainly am not, and I made a video about my love for the fish back in January, after 4 months of my CFP, when I was still a full time BPC student.

I’m a true fish-lover. I like beating them, and, living in Malta, I also love eating them. In fact, I was eating one for dinner while writing this blog, no joke. Lampuki, the typical Maltese fish.

Anyway, read the article from the PokerCapitalist (I love this nickname he gave himself, btw). It just might change your game for the better. All those people making money in poker can’t be wrong. And they are not.
